Lenore Graduates!

Lenore graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences from Dallas Baptist University (DBU) on December 17th. Joel flew down from New Hampshire for the happy occasion. We are all really proud of her for accomplishing her educational goals at this stage in her life!

Jason to take Foreign Service Exam again this April

The U.S. State Department recently contacted Jason and urged him to retake the Foreign Service Exam this year. They indicated that he had been a “near-pass” candidate on last year's exam, and encouraged him to apply again this year. Pray for Jason as he studies and prepares to take the exam on April 23rd. He is trusting the Lord to guide him in his future work.

Moving Ahead with Bill and Lenore Martin – a DVD

We have produced a 7.5-minute DVD presentation that briefly recounts our past contribution to the work of Bible Translation in Papua New Guinea, and highlights the vision that Lenore and I have for our future contributions to this exciting work. The DVD  presentation is entitled Moving Ahead With Bill and Lenore Martin.

Our primary purpose in producing this DVD presentation was to produce a tool that our advocates can use to inform others about our work and assist us in widening our partnership base of people who are committed to helping us accomplish our ministry through their prayers and financial support. If you would like us to send you a copy of this DVD please contact us.

Our Financial Support Situation

Since May 2003 our income has averaged about $1,000 per month less than what our administrators determine we need for our ministry. Last October, Our organization began implementing a policy which requires us to reach 100% support by October this year (2005). At that time, if we are not at full support, we will have to stop our current jobs and work full-time on building up our financial support team. We are already devoting two to three days per week in partnership development activities. Pray that the Lord will provide additional partners for us so we can continue our roles.

Travel Planning

Lenore and I plan to travel to various parts of the country this year to visit friends and supporters. Our first trip will probably take us throughout the west coast of the USA from Washington State to Southern California. We would hope to see as many of you as we can who live in that region. Pray that our plans will come together in the next couple months. We are trusting God that He will raise up additional families (and churches) that would partner with us. Let us know if you would like us to visit you!

Adapt It developments

Bill continues to work on a future version of the Adapt It software program. We were encouraged recently to hear the following report concerning Adapt It from administrators working in Mozambique, Africa: “Workers doubted [Adapt It’s] application to Africa's more complex Bantu languages -- until they tried it. They were surprised when it successfully produced a draft of the book of Titus and Scripture portions. They realized it might be possible to draft Mozambique's entire Nyungwe New Testament in a relatively short time. Pray for wisdom as teams plan ways to put it to use in translating Bantu languages.”

þ  We rejoice with Lenore in her graduation from Dallas Baptist University with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. She is thankful for the training she has received that will enable her to help missionary children who are struggling with their reading skills.

o  Pray for us as we focus on partnership development activities. As time permits, Bill is continuing the development of the Adapt It program, and Lenore is scanning and organizing 35 years of photos and slides.

þ  We praise the Lord for Jason’s desire to serve God and Country as a Foreign Service Officer.

o  Pray for Jason as he retakes the Foreign Service Exam on April 23rd.

þ  We praise the Lord that Joel was able to find another software engineering job on the heels of being laid off from his previous job.

o Pray for Joel and Rebecca as they await the status of their mission applications.

þ  We praise the Lord for our faithful partners who pray for us and support us.

o Pray that the Lord will provide 20 additional partners who will pray for us and can support us financially at an average of $50 per month.

þ  We praise the Lord for good reports of Adapt It’s usefulness on the field.

o Pray for Bill and co-developer Bruce Waters as they continue to develop Adapt It into a more effective tool in the hands of translators around the world.
