Lenore and I have made all our bookings for our travel to PNG this Summer. We have an ambitious schedule which includes two weeks in Southern California and two weeks in Australia on our way to PNG. We still have many details to work out including obtaining visas for our entry to PNG and the purchase and shipping of computer equipment, solar panels and water-proof cases. We expect to meet with Nyindrou national translator Charles Kowak to help him plot out a strategy for continued translation work in the Nyindrou language as well as possibly supervising a multiple language Adapt It translation project into other languages on Manus Island.
Nationals from several other Manus language groups have already expressed an interest in using the Adapt It program on low-power computers to translate the Scriptures into their own Manus languages, none of which yet have any of God’s Word.
I (Bill) am making good progress on the Linux version of the Adapt It program, although there are still many challenges to solve to get a fully working version ready for wider testing. I will be attending a Linux Developers Conference in Calgary Alberta Canada next month, and am looking forward to good interaction with other programmers who are diligently working on Bible translation software
The Bible translation work being done around the world today is much advanced because of the work and generosity of JAARS, Wycliffe’s sister organization. JAARS focuses on providing technical assistance to translation programs worldwide. Lenore and I were privileged to represent the Nyindrou translation program and speak to them on two recent occasions.
The kind folks at JAARS raised all the funds needed to supply Charles with a new outboard motor for the boat he uses in translation and Scripture use activities.
See the Rev7 publication here. Rev7 is a quarterly publication of JAARS. On Pages 12-13 you will find a story written by Charles Kowak that I translated, which tells about the impact of God’s word on a dear Nyindrou friend of ours named Joe.
We praise the Lord for supplying a big chunk of the funds needed for our travel to PNG and the cost of purchasing the low-power computer equipment, solar panels, and water-proof cases. Pray that the remaining costs for travel and equipment will be met in the next two months. Continue to pray also that the Lord will provide more financial and prayer partners to insure that our ministry goals and projects continue to be met in the future.
