One of the first objectives of the Nyindrou Advance project was to provide boat fuel to complete the distribution of the Nyindrou New Testaments to the southern villages of the Nyindrou language area. Here are some glimpses of the Scripture distribution trip that national translator Charles Kowak made in August.

The “Nyindrou Advance” funding project got under way over the summer months. Thanks to the generosity of our partners, the Nyindrou Advance has already begun to help the Nyindrou translation program in Papua New Guinea move ahead. First, the project provided the funds to purchase outboard motor fuel so that Charles could travel by boat to the southern Nyindrou villages where he completed the distribution of the Nyindrou New Testaments (see photos).
Next, from here in the USA we ordered and shipped the portable generator, audio-visual equipment, and printing supplies in August and September. Those all arrived in Papua New Guinea by mid October. Upon hearing of their arrival, Charles made the difficult 350 mile trip from Manus Island, traveling by sea to the PNG mainland and by public taxi up the road to Ukarumpa in the PNG highlands. From there he escorted the valuable equipment by road back down to the coast and again by sea back out to Manus Island. Upon arriving in Manus, Charles and a number of church leaders dedicated the equipment to the Lord and to his glory. Charles is now in the process of planning a Scripture promotion campaign, focusing on the training of church workers in the use of the Nyindrou Scriptures and Bible story telling - all facilitated by showings of the Luke Jesus video using the new equipment supplied by the project.
Please pray that the Lord will also provide the funds necessary for the second phase of the project – the purchase of computers, solar chargers, and our travel to PNG in mid 2011 to provide more Adapt It training. That phase is designed to expand the Nyindrou program into a multi-language Bible translation program – utilizing Adapt It to translate the Scriptures into several other Manus Island languages related to Nyindrou. If you are interested in contributing to the Nyindrou Advance in PNG, donations should be made payable to “Wycliffe Bible Translators” (address: PO Box 628200 Orlando FL 32862) with a note specifying “For Nyindrou Advance in PNG Account #837753.” Write to us if you would like more details, or go to our website at:

The Adapt It team has been busy for most of this year preparing a major new version (6) of the program for release in early 2011. We are adding features to Adapt It designed to help national translators with minimal computer experience to work better in team situations – providing enhanced data sharing, data protection, and customizable work profiles for team administrators. Many of these changes require a major overhaul of the underlying “engine” that makes Adapt It work. Other changes will make the program easier to use and translators more productive.
We are so grateful for the loving prayers and gifts our partnership team has made for our ministry this year. Our team of financial partners was composed of 40 individuals and families and 10 churches and organizations. Gifts for our ministry in 2010 averaged about 92% of what our organization determines should be our basic ministry budget. We realize that many have sacrificed other things to support us during this time. We thank the Lord for motivating each one of you to share with us from what the Lord himself has given you through his abundant grace.
God bless you for being a part in our ministry! |
