September 2012 |
On September 20th Lenore had her blood tests and CT scan that marked one year since she finished her chemotherapy. We are glad to report that her latest tests show that she remains clear of any cancer. Her doctor enthusiastically recommended that she schedule an outpatient procedure to remove the port from her chest since it is unlikely she will ever need it again!
As I write this the Adapt It team is in the process of releasing version 6.3.1 of the program which is designed for standard desktop and laptop computers. Although we have a few more strategic features to add to the existing form of Adapt It, we are gearing up for the creation of a totally new version of Adapt It that will run on smart phones, tablets and other mobile devices. The need for such a version grows daily as the use of smart phones and other mobile devices is really exploding throughout the world - even into the parts of the earth that still lack a translation of God’s word in the local language.
One of our greatest pleasures is watching and interacting with our grandkids. Next month Mari and Torin will both turn one year old!

On September 3rd I (Bill) turned 65 years old. It was nice to have all of our extended family over for a celebration dinner. Although I could have officially “retired” at 62, my work in support of Bible translation is too much fun to consider slowing down at this point! I feel that I have reached the most productive time of my life as lead developer of the Adapt It team.
Since I recently became eligible for Medicare, I’ve been getting some long overdue “Welcome to Medicare” medical tests done including my first colonoscopy. Dr Rodriguez (who is Lenore’s doctor) performed the procedure. He removed two small benign polyps, but said everything looked good. The nurse anesthetist, however, said I should be checked for obstructive sleep apnea. So, I’m planning to meet with a doctor soon to get a sleep study scheduled and recommendations made.
You may recall that we were in the process of planning a visit to PNG early in 2011 when Lenore was found to have colon cancer. Now that she is well and her health screenings are needed less frequently, we are now asking the Lord if and when we should plan a visit to PNG to carry out the training and resource development with Charles Kowak and other Manus national translators that we had planned to do last year. Charles and the others are still eager for us to come, but our biggest challenge at this point is waiting on the Lord to provide the funds to make the trip as well as to get the computing resources to PNG that would help Charles to supervise an Adapt It “cluster” project. An Adapt It cluster project is one in which the text of the Nyindrou Scriptures would be used to adapt the Scriptures into several other languages of Manus Province that are related to Nyindrou, but don’t yet have any Scriptures.
Our travel to PNG would cost around $7,000 and the computers and solar chargers for the cluster project would cost an additional $5,000. Please pray that the Lord would provide these expenses according to His will and timing.
