Family News "Dad weve had an accident with the car," Jason said. When the phone rang its distinctive double ring, we knew it was a call initiated outside of Ukarumpa. Such calls generate excitement and anticipation for us here in PNG, since they often turn out to be calls from Joel or Jason somewhere in the USA. We had been praying hard for Jason and his traveling companion (and fellow Ukarumpa classmate Kazuto) since we heard news of a bad ice storm in the parts of the Eastern US where they were planning to travel during their Christmas break. A total ouch! "We are both OK, but the car had to be towed to a motel here in Cookeville Tennessee where Im calling from," Jason added calmly. We breathed a sigh of relief that there were no injuries. "I called the insurance company and several other people. Im not sure what we will do now, but I wanted to let you and Mom know what has happened, and get your advice." We were impressed with how calmly Jason was handling the situation and, over the next few days, we were grateful for the help of church people nearby who helped out. It seems, God has provided wonderful friends everywhere for missionary kids (MKs). As it turns out the car was considered "totaled" for insurance purposes. We suggested Jason and Kazuto continue their trip by bus to Philadelphia, while the insurance was being settled. While in the Pennsylvania area, Jason heard about another car available from friends of ours who had worked in PNG. The insurance settlement was enough to buy the car, enabling Jason and friend to continue their trip. In the end Jason reported, "God worked everything out and we probably had a better Christmas than we would have if everything had gone as planned. Now I know what to do if I ever get in another accident. I made a lot of new friends, and everyone we stayed with was so generous and hospitable, it was nice after kind of a rough semester here. Thanks for praying for us so much, I could really tell ."Joel and Rebecca also called us recently to ask advice about house buying. They are now in the process of buying a house of their own in Hudson, New Hampshire, across the river from Nashua. The side and back of the house has a wrap-around veranda with a grand view of the Merrimack river. We are excited for them and for the Lords provision for them and their future home. Joel & Rebecca's future home They hope to have escrow completed and move into the new house by the time the lease on their current apartment expires at the end of May. Health Concern A few weeks ago Lenore began to experience significant upper back pain. She had been mostly free of such upper back pain since her neck surgery 10 years ago. The doctor has examined her here, but has not determined the cause of the current pain. A recent TB skin test was positive, but chest x-rays and other tests indicate no active TB. Although the positive TB skin test is of some concern, the doctor did not feel her current back pain is related to TB. We would appreciate your prayers for healing and wisdom about the possibility of further medical evaluation. New Testament Dedication Date to change to late July 2002 Looking at schedules and transportation possibilities, we have recommended to the Lindrou people the possibility of setting a date in late July 2002 to dedicate their Lindrou New Testament. We know of a number of people from overseas who would like to attend the dedication. Even though it is 15 months away, it is time to be thinking about travel plans, if you plan to attend the dedication. As you might imagine there are a lot of logistics to be worked out, especially for travel and accommodation within PNG for visitors. If you are seriously interested in coming, please write to us! We hope to soon start supplying interested parties with information about estimated costs, etc. A visit to the Lindrou area would be the experience of a lifetime! Typesetting Completed & Proofs off to Korea for Printing On Thursday March 15th typesetting of the Lindrou New Testament was officially completed. The Lindrou team wishes to thank all of you who have been praying for the completion of this milestone. On Tuesday March 20, 2001 the proofs were sent air freight to a printer in Korea for printing. A recent e-mail from the printer indicates they received them in good order on March 26th. The printing process itself usually takes about 3 1/2 months. We would appreciate your continued prayers that the process goes well. The Lindrou Typesetting Team
