The Unique Commandment

by Lenore Martin

When the Jewish rabbis asked Jesus which of the commandments is the most important he answered: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these." Mark 12: 30-31.

Love myself!! What?! I've recently been learning that in order to love others I need to love myself. I don't know if other people have trouble loving themselves, but I know I have.

I think this poem by Byron Michow that I found in the book His Image My Image by Josh Mcdowell expresses where I'm at right now:

 "Me"
All my life I've tried to please others
All my life I've put on an act for others
I will not do this.
For if I spend my time trying to be someone else,
Who will spend the time being me?

My prayer for you and me is that we would truly love ourselves and in so doing be able to love others. Lord, help me to be myself in all that you created me to be, not to glorify myself but to glorify you. Thank you for loving me in all my uniqueness.

Unique Cultures

Just as God has created unique individuals he has also created unique cultures. We feel privileged to be living among the unique cultures of Papua New Guinea. Our purpose in working as Bible Translators in PNG is not to have people change their culture, but that the Word of God in their own language would be used to change lives. God is calling unique people groups to himself.

Unique Children

The Lord has given us two unique children. We enjoy watching them grow and mature in all areas of their lives. As you can see from this recent family picture, Joel and Jason have grown a lot in the past few months.

A Unique Work among a Unique Group of People

After the consultant check of Luke and after other revisions, the Crucifixion, Resurrection and Ascension stories from Lindrou Luke were narrated and dubbed onto the New Media Bible Video version of Luke chapters 23 and 24. This video will be tested as a pilot project later this year to determine whether the Lindrou team should dub the whole Gospel of Luke on Video and possibly the book of Genesis.

During May, June and July, we helped three Lindrou people prepare literacy materials in the Lindrou language. These materials will be used in Prep and Community Schools in 1993.

Timothy Kundrake (Lindrou national translator) plans to attend a translation workshop at Ukarumpa from October 19th through December 4th. During this workshop, participants will be translating the entire book of Romans.

Man's Best (Unique) Friend

by Joel Martin

Just two weeks ago, a little bundle of fur and fun walked (waddled) into our life. He's half Labrador Retriever and half German Shepherd. In a session of brainstorming around the table we came up with the perfect name: Megabyte.

A Unique Hobby

by Jason Martin

It's fun collecting stamps. Every stamp is unique! I especially like this one issued in Papua New Guinea in 1981. It shows a helicopter flying over our Ukarumpa Center. I flew in that helicopter and live in Ukarumpa! I want to thank everyone who has sent me stamps!

Unique Opportunities to Pray:

As you pray, please note these points:

Pray for Timothy as he translates the very challenging book of Romans into Lindrou.
Pray for the PNG Government as they restructure their education system to include vernacular education in Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2.
Pray for wisdom as we give assistance to those wishing to develop a local chapter of the Bible Translation Association on Manus.
Pray for good health and safety in traveling. Bill had an attack of malaria in August.

Thank you for the unique part you have as partners with us in this Ministry.

Uniquely Yours,

Bill (1006 bytes)
