Friends Provide Free Phone calls to the Martin Family in February

Our good friends, Marvin and Jerry Thiel, have informed us that our relatives, friends and supporters living in Southern California can call us for free during February. It seems that the phone company has given them a large credit on their business phone bill that can be used to make long distance calls. If you would be interested in calling us, please contact the Thiels to make an appointment with them to use their business phone. Their home phone number is: (310) 426-4076.

The best time to call us in PNG is between 1pm and 2pm Monday through Friday local California time (7am-8am PNG time). We can be reached direct dial from the USA at: 011-675-774-395. We would love to hear from you! (Thank you Marvin and Jerry!).

Furlough Countdown Begins

We have begun to make plans for our furlough which will begin at the end of June this year. We expect to depart PNG on June 30th and fly to Southern California where we plan to spend the first two weeks of July. Then, in mid July we plan to travel to Dallas Texas to spend the bulk of our furlough there. At the least, we expect to travel through Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado visiting friends and supporters on our way to Texas. We have not finalized our travel route, however, so please let us know if you would like us to include a visit to you in our July travel plans.

National Translator Trusting the Lord for Prayer and Financial Support

In our last prayer letter we asked for prayer for Charles Kowak who is planning to resign from teaching Community School in order to devote himself full-time to Bible translation for his Lindrou people. Continue to pray for him as the new PNG school year will have started about the time you receive this letter. The school system wants him to continue teaching, but Charles is trusting the Lord to enable him to devote himself full-time to Bible Translation work. In order to do this Charles is seeking prayer and financial partners. If you would be interested in praying regularly for him and/or knowing more about his financial support needs please contact us for further information.

Ham Radio in the Works

Joel and I (Bill) are studying to take our Amateur Radio Operator’s test (General Class) in May this year. We both have an interest in electronics and amateur radio would be an interesting way to maintain communications once Joel goes off to college. Are any of you out there ham operators?!

Electronic Mail Speeds Communications

We are now hooked up to E-Mail by means of the Internet. If you have a computer and E-Mail capability you can now communicate with us via the Internet.

Be sure to indicate your full name and our name in the body of any E-Mail letters.

Praise Items

1. Praise the Lord for a fresh new year in which to serve Him.

2. Praise the Lord that Bernard Laban’s vernacular prep-school is going well in the Lindrou area.

Prayer Items

1. Pray for Charles Kowak, that the Lord will provide him with the prayer and financial partners he needs to do full-time translation work for his people.

2. Pray for Joel as he continues to seek the Lord’s will for furthering his education after graduation in June 1995. He has narrowed down his choice of universities to two: LeTourneau and Taylor.

3. Pray for the Lord’s provision of land and resources needed to relocate and rebuild our Island’s Region facilities which were destroyed by volcanoes in September last year.
