Martins' Memos Prayer Update

November 1998

Dear Praying Friends,

In our October Prayer Alert, we said that we would keep you informed monthly about our efforts to increase our partnership base. Several have contacted us and expressed their desire to uphold us in their prayers as well as increase their financial support. Although there has been some loss and some gain, we are praising the Lord that our monthly financial support has increased to 60% of the minimum amount we need to return to Papua New Guinea in September next year!

Recently we heard from our national co-translator Charles by e-mail from PNG. He thanked us (and you) for all of our prayers. Although we were not aware of it, in October he went to Lorengau town to work on the Lindrou translation. As soon as he started to work his computer quit and he had to send it to Ukarumpa for repairs. Then he came down with a nasty bout of malaria complicated by pneumonia and diarrhea. He says "On October 21st I got so terribly sick that I almost lost my life. Fortunately at the time I was not in the village but in town and my son Kevin took me to the hospital where they nursed me back to health." Charles is now at Ukarumpa, his computer is fixed and he is mentoring Bill Bomwai and Nelson Kalai in the STEP course there.

Charles’ experience illustrates how crucial your prayers are for us, for him, and for the Lindrou translation and literacy program. We know the enemy does not want God’s Word to become available for the Lindrou people. Keep praying!!
